Alex Wagemann: “FIDIC Contract models gain ground in Latin America”

At the FIDIC Americas and Caribbean 2025 Official Users Conference on May 7, Alex Wagemann highlighted the growing use of international contract models like FIDIC in Latin America, especially in projects funded by development banks.

"For the use of FIDIC contracts to be truly effective, experts agree that a specific legal framework is required that can align with the philosophy of the contract, thus avoiding potential conflicts with local legislation".

At the FIDIC Americas and Caribbean 2025 Official Users Conference on May 7, Alex Wagemann highlighted the growing use of international contract models like FIDIC in Latin America, especially in projects funded by development banks.

He stressed the need for legal frameworks aligned with FIDIC philosophy and warned about cultural and administrative barriers to implementation. Proper training of all stakeholders—contractors, lawyers, and engineers—is essential.

He praised the role of Dispute Avoidance and Adjudication Boards (DAABs) in FIDIC contracts and noted Peru’s Dispute Boards as a model for public law integration.
